How to Build the Ultimate Daycare Pack

Whether it is your first time taking your little one to daycare or coming back from a break, here are some of the items you might want to include in a backpack with your baby when you bring them in. From food preferences and extra burp cloths to extra clothes, these will be much appreciated by the caretakers at the daycare.

Baby Bibs

Food Preferences

Whether it’s breast milk or formula, you should pack enough to get through at least a day. If your baby is going to daycare more than one day each week, give your daycare enough food to get through those days. If your little one is on formula, you can provide them with a can to hold, and they will let you know when you need to bring another. If you are bringing breast milk, be sure to label the package with your name and date. Buy extras of any bottles your baby likes and give those to the daycare after labeling them. If your baby spits up a lot, you might want to include extra burp cloths to not overtax the daycare. The same goes for baby bibs, as well, to help keep messes down. This can also help if your little one has a favorite bib and refuses other bibs. Be sure to pack an extra change of clothes just in case as well.

The Right Diapers and Wipes

You will likely have to provide your own diapers. This is especially important if there is a brand you prefer over others or that works best with your little one. Be sure to include enough that you don’t have to resupply constantly, such as bringing a big box. You will likely also have to provide baby wipes. These might be pooled each month, or you might have some that are just for your baby. Check with your daycare provider for more information.

Loveys for Comfort

Be sure to bring favorite loveys for your baby to carry around with them and soothe them while you are gone. It’s a good idea to have something familiar for them to have with them all day. However, it’s entirely possible that, if your baby is already walking, they might lose the lovey. Be sure to have backups and extras available and buy more than one of any given lovey if possible.

Blankets for Naptime

Whether your little one is still swaddled or is old enough to have a loose baby blanket, be sure to include a receiving blanket in the pack. This, like a lovey, can also be a source of comfort, as the pattern is familiar, and it will smell like home. You may also need to provide sheets for a crib or portable crib, as well.
