Try These 5 Fun Fall Activities with Your Baby

The air is crisp, the leaves are changing color, and pumpkins and apples are everywhere. With autumn comes fun activities you can do with your baby. Whether it’s making homemade apple sauce or playing in leaves, here are a few ideas for having fun with your little one this fall.

Burp Cloths

Take a Stroll Through the Changing Leaves

Grab the stroller, a pumpkin spice latte, and a receiving blanket and go for a walk around the neighborhood. There are plenty of leaves changing color, making it a great time to see the sights. Enjoy the crisp fall air while giving your baby new sights and smells to take in. You can hunt for certain colors of leaves, whether in the park or your backyard and collect leaves for other craft projects. If you have a pile of leaves raked up you can both play in them as well.

Make Homemade Apple Sauce

Apples are a classic part of the fall, and you can make some homemade apple sauce for your baby. It’s easy to do, and your little one will love the snack! Peel, core, and cut up the apples into chunks. Put the applies in a pan, and fill with water to barely cover them. Boil while occasionally stirring until they are tender. Reserve some water from the pan to thin out the sauce. Mash the apples, preferably with a potato masher, until you have smooth apple sauce. Thin the sauce with the reserved water. You can add cinnamon for a new flavor for your baby, or simply serve. Be sure to break out the baby bibs to keep everyone clean!

Sensory Exploration with Gourds

Babies explore the world and learn through sensory experiences. You can bring gourds home from a local farmers’ market or the grocery store. If your baby is old enough, they can hold the gourds themselves. Otherwise, gently roll the gourds over your little one’s tummy, arms, and legs. Gourds can be smooth, bumpy, prickly, and rough. Smaller gourds are perfect for working on fine motor skills if your baby can hold them.

Paint Pumpkins

Put away the knives and paint pumpkins! You can use finger paints with your baby to create works of art on the pumpkins. Like the gourds, your baby will love feeling the pumpkin’s texture, especially with ridges and the prickly stem. If you are brave, you can also cut open the pumpkin and let your little one play with the mushy insides. Keep some burp cloths handy to clean up the mess.
